Born in Calgary, Alberta, Assunta grew up on a picturesque acreage outside of the city overlooking the Rocky Mountains. She was introduced to watercolour painting during her high school years. After obtaining a university degree in Computer Science and a successful professional career, Assunta returned to her artistic roots.

Having first studied the watercolour medium in Vancouver in 1986, Assunta continued over the years, to study art and take art courses at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, the Alberta College of Art & Design (ACAD) and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Assunta paints in a wide variety of mediums. She creates in watercolours, graphite, oils, acrylic, pastels, inks, encaustics and gold leaf. Her paintings have been displayed in numerous art shows and have been featured in the Art Show Gallery, the Northern Lights Gallery and the Art & Soul Gallery, in Calgary, and in the One of a Kind Gallery in Bragg Creek.

For three years Assunta lived in Paris, France where she completely immersed herself in art.

For numerous years, Assunta was a co-facilitator for the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) Program at the South Health Campus Hospital and an avid volunteer for Art a la Carte Calgary.

Assunta has enjoyed the success of numerous private sales worldwide. She was a juried member of the Interpretations Artists’ Association for numerous years. Her work appears in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, England, France, Italy, Columbia and Holland. She creates and teaches from her studio in Calgary.
